• Welcome

As former students, teachers, administrators, and employees, of the Historic Westside School, we are committed to preserving the legacy of our school. The alumni will bring to life the bricks and mortar of Westside School by chronicling our (first hand) experiences between 1923 and 1967.

On behalf of the WSAF, thank you for visiting our new website.
    Brenda J. Williams
    President

    When...

...it opened in 1923, the two-room school, commonly called the Westside School, was the first school building on the Westside and is the oldest remaining schoolhouse in Las Vegas today. Its importance in Las Vegas history, particularly black history, was recognized in 1979 when the school was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

With the support and efforts of the Alumni Foundation, "Westside School: Our School, Our Community, Our Time (1923 - 1967)" is a collection of photographs, memories, and stories dedicated to preserving the school's legacy and the history of the Westside, which speaks to both its continuing challenges and promises for the future.

This is the first of many charitable projects of WSAF that provide scholarships, books, and new experiences to underprivileged youngsters; and are designed to stimulate growth in the old Westside community.
